1. What is the mission of GALA? The mission of GALA is to surpass the targeted Kindergarten level and master skills necessary for higher level achievement. 2. What makes GALA’s approach superior to other child care or pre-school programs? GALA facilitates the strongest, most innovative educational program available at the pre-school and Pre-Kindergarten level. GALA’s distinctive program provides children the ability to experience success at a very early age. GALA utilizes a learning approach that offers a diverse learning environment. We encourage self-fulfillment activities through learning centers and individual portfolios. Upon completion of our program, your child will have built a portfolio which supports Kindergarten readiness goals and objectives. The problem with most child care or pre-school programs today is that these centers often do not maximize its qualifications beyond a day care facility. GALA recognizes the need for academic preparation throughout your child’s primary years. Unlike most child care or pre-school facilities, GALA utilizes an extensive academic curriculum approach. 4. What is internal monitoring and internet viewing? GALA maintains an internal monitor in the reception area so that parents may observe their child enter his/her classroom each morning and his/her involvement in the classroom prior to departure. Internet viewing offers parents, grandparents and other authorized persons a real time, streaming image of the classroom via the internet. Please see your Director for a full explanation of our internal monitoring and internet viewing system. 5. What are the objectives of GALA? Please refer to your registration information packet for a full explanation and detailed list of GALA’s academic readiness goals and objectives. 6. What academic instruction can I expect my child to receive? You can expect your child to receive daily academic instruction in the areas of Literacy, Phonics, Reading, Language, Grammar, Writing, Mathematics, Social Science, Spanish, Motor Skill Development, Physical Education, Art Education, Music Education and Computer Technology. Please refer to GALA’s daily schedule for subject activities and corresponding times. 7. What impact can I expect GALA to have on my child? GALA’s impact can be measured by your child’s confidence to work at higher learning levels, strong academic grades and heightened standardized test scores. Graduates from our program will achieve success not only at the Kindergarten level, but for years to come. In addition, we are confident that our program increases attitudes, self-esteem, behavior and social skills. 8. Is my child too young to begin to build an academic portfolio? Absolutely not. Portfolios are an accurate measurement of academic growth and development. GALA will maintain a portfolio for your child emphasizing skills in Phonics, Mathematics, Writing and creative techniques. Your child’s portfolio will include documentation of specific skills through recorded observations, instructional work samples and curriculum assessment tools. 9. GALA must be very expensive. On the contrary, GALA’s academic readiness program is quite affordable. Academic services begin as low as $40/day. Extended services are available from 7:00am – 9:00am and/or 3:30pm - 6:00pm for a nominal fee. Students may enroll in a 2, 3, 4 or 5 day program. School lunch is $4/day. A nutritionally balanced catered lunch is available.
