GALC Frequently Asked QuestionsProgramsAbout GALC Tuition Our Typical Day

OUR TYPICAL DAY

A Look at Our Busy Day at Grade A….. Each day is packed with learning adventures and exciting Challenges. Take a closer look!!
.

Writing & Phonics

We start each day with an introduction to the letter & number of the day. We learn & practice words that start with that letter and brainstorm our own words (with helping clues cometimes!) We find that letter & number around the room and in our books. We practice the sound that letter makes. All of these phonics activities will help us to read later on.

Mathematics

Building a mathematics foundation, even in these early years, is critical. Math is so much more than numbers! Manipulatives make learning math real! Touching & building to discover concepts like big & small, more & less, over & under, fewer & many, etc. is a sure way to help us learn, figure out, and remember!

Nap / Rest Time

The brain needs a rest! Studies have shown that in order to fully process and store new material, the brain requires “down” time.

Motor Skills

Gross motor skills help us focus on and develop social skills, good sportsmanship, and physical coordination. Fine motor skills help us with hand/eye coordination, and finger/hand strength (for writing, cutting, pasting, etc). We don’t realize how important these skills are in preparation for school (and life!)

Social Sciences

Social Studies helps us discover things about ourselves, our community, our world, and the people in it. Health helps us learn, understand, and choose ways to take good care of ourselves and our bodies. Nutrition is important in these early years and we need guidance in making healthful choices. Science for preschool children is like magic! The things we uncover and discover through experimentation are marvelous! We learn concepts of “what”, “where”, “why”, and “how” through hands on experiments each day. It doesn’t get better than this!!

Reading & Writing
Through Reading and Writing, we learn and understand that letters make up words and words make up the stories we hear and “read”. Making that connection is critical to becoming successful readers. We initially will begin to “scribble” things that may or may not resemble letters, and eventually, those scribbles turn into purposeful letter writing!
Watch it happen!!!!!!!

Specials

Art class encourages inner creativity and imagination! These daily works of art are priceless treasures. Computers are a wonderful tool for promoting independence and cognitive stimulation. Who know a 2 year old could master the mouse! Music time is a time for self-expression. Children need these “breaks” to experiment and express themselves! Grade A also has Spanish class twice a week! Where else can you find such a variety of enrichment? It’s all here! See for yourself!!
